When it comes to grilled cheese I don’t think of too many new and creative ways to make them. I might get inspiration from a tv show, Pinterest or one of my foodie magazines and try something different like this recipe but, usually I fall back to plain old grilled cheese or grilled ham and cheese.
I seen this on Veronica’s blog and it looked so very scrumptious that I had to make it then and there! And yes, I read the blog at midnight and by midnight 30 I was eating a turkey grilled cheese 🙂
I didn’t have an onion on hand and I only had sharp cheddar, so I strayed from her recipe. Veronica knows I have a love for cranberries and was kind enough to send me two jars of her killer cranberry sauce (minus the pecans). I promptly added some to my sandwich. It was like a mini-Thanksgiving in my belly! In May 🙂
Here is what you’ll need:
Two slices of whole wheat or multi-grain bread
2 slices sharp cheddar cheese
butter (*or light mayonnaise)
6 slices honey roasted deli turkey
2-3 T. cranberry sauce (recipe in link above)
Butter the bread on one side put buttered side down in pan. Add a piece of cheese, turkey, cheese and cranberry sauce. Top with the other slice of bread and grill until golden brown and cheese is melted.
*Tip ~ You can use light mayonnaise instead of butter for the outside of your bread, it’s a bit less calories for those of you counting calories.
This cranberry sauce is fabulous over brie cheese with crackers too. Or you can eat it right out of the jar…just sayin’ 😉 Have a fantastic day and thanks for stopping!
Preety damn good for breakfast supper. Suzie….
btw, i’ve never find melted ceddar before, lucky you
I always forget to use my grill pan for grilled cheese. Duh, Carrie!
I love my grill pan! I use it for steaks, burgers and sandwiches often….I forget about my grill more often….lol!! 😉
I should use my grill pan often! It sits in the kitchen and collect the dust…the grilled cheese looks yummilicious!
You had me cranberry—seriously I love cranberry sauce. This would be come a quick favorite in my house!
Sam, if you love cranberry you must try this easy relish!! SOOOO good!
You never know when you might be inspired, I’d totally make this as a midnight snack. I have been using mayo on my grilled cheese for a while now, I think it works better than butter and gives it a little more flavor.
I tend to use mayo more often too 🙂
Oh yum! This looks delicious! Love the combination of turkey and cranberry in a grilled cheese sandwich!
oh yum. i’ll have to try this next! after my jalapeno popper grilled cheese i’m inspired to make as many weird kinds of grilled cheese as i can! and by weird i definitely mean awesome 🙂
Lol! I know what you mean. Like your grilled cheese, this is a winner!
Hells yes! I love sweet with cheese! And I think it’s perfectly fine without the onion! 😝
That is definitely a new combination but it looks utterly delicious!
Cheers

This sounds great, the cranberries are such a great touch.Very creative and totally delicious!
Yum! This looks delicious. I love grilled cheese and variations thereof!
Jorie, it was delish!!
I was finally emptying all my jars of disgusting cranberry marmalade (I overcooked in the slow cooker it so it was super concentrated to the nth degree and inedible) and discovered I had a couple jars of cranberry sauce! Unfortunately the first one I discovered b/c I was emptying it into the garbage and thinking, this looks different, and then tasted it-so sad!). But I still have one and I’m so gonna do this. YeS! Your picture is ultra-fab, I just can’t believe how melty that cheese is. Never tried mayo, I never thought it would be as good! How can butter be beaten?!
Oh, that’s too bad about all that cranberry relish!! At least you had one good one 🙂 You have me hooked on these sandwiches girl, so good! Try the mayo sometime, I think you’ll like it.
I like the idea of a grilled Thanksgiving sandwich in May! Why do we only think to eat those delicious combinations in November? Thank you for the inspiration. I have some frozen cranberries( I always get a few extra bags at Thanksgiving and freeze for later)waiting for me to be inspired. 🙂
Veronica’s cranberry relish recipe is really good and was perfect on this sandwich. I hope you try it! Next year I am going to stock up on cranberries too, I always seem to forget.
Just want you to know, Suzie, that I couldn’t wait for this sandwich. It made me too hungry reading your blog! I will make the relish some time soon, but as soon as I got up from the computer I made grilled cheese with turkey and canned cranberry sauce for dinner! It was a delicious sandwich and I can only imagine that the fresh cranberry relish would be even better! 🙂
I’m so glad you liked it. It’s a favorite here now too, I guess I just wouldn’t of thought of putting those together other than a holiday. I’m so glad I did though 🙂
I’m glad you did too! 🙂
