This is one of two Superbowl recipes I have for you before the BIG DAY! They both involve hot sauce and in ways are similar but, they are also two different creations.
Instead of messy wings, that consist of orange hands, an orange face and 2,000 used napkins in the trash, these are buffalo balls. You can just have fun saying the name alone, I know I do 😉
Are you going to a Superbowl party this year and if so what are you making? If you would like to share a link to a recipe in the comments, feel free to do so! I would love to see what you’re making!
Onto the balls…
Meatballs:
1.25 lb. package of ground chicken or turkey (I used turkey)
2 oz. softened cream cheese
2 eggs
3 T. crumbled blue cheese
1/2 t. ground black pepper
Sauce:
1/2 stick unsalted butter
1/2 c. Frank’s Red Hot Sauce
Combine all of the meatball ingredients into a large bowl. No need to add salt as the hot sauce and blue cheese provide plenty of salt. The mix will be sticky. If you wet your hands, it’s much easier to make the balls without them sticking to you. (What kind of blog is this anyways!? 😉 )Form into 1 inch balls and place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
While they are baking combine the hot sauce and the butter in a large microwave safe dish. Heat until butter melts. Blend together with a whisk.
After the 10 minutes, remove balls and carefully dunk into the hot sauce mixture.
Evenly coat them and put them back onto the cookie sheet and bake for an additional 12-15 minutes. If you have extra sauce you can pour it over the meatballs if you like the additional heat ( I do!!).
Serve with celery sticks and blue cheese dressing to complete the ensemble!
Yield: This made 44 meatballs. I doubled the sauce (only) recipe and it was perfect!!
Original recipe found here.
I would also like to thank Veronica for my awesome new header…you rock girl!! xoxo
Have a great weekend y’all!
You think this would work with ground pork or would it be too dry? My husband is allergic to chicken (all poultry, in fact) and I feel like he misses out on the wonderful flavor that buffalo sauce brings! I think he would love these.
I think ground pork would work. You have the eggs, cream cheese and the blue cheese to keep them moist. Then the hot sauce mixture. I would certainly try it Carrie. It’s too bad he’s allergic to poultry, that’s a bummer!
Might want to add maybe 1/2 cup of bread crumbs or panko. It will absorb the juices and keep your meat a lil more moist.
1/2 cup or less. Lol, I go by what kinda looks right.
I like your header! Buffalo balls sound good!
Thanks Jane!
Well that is certainly an attention grabbing headline, chica! The recipe looks to-die-for good!! The rugbrat will be gone so Steve & I can make some on Friday and just feast on these all weekend long…yum! 🙂
And the new header is awesome, too! 🙂
Lol!! I got a kick out of it 😉 I bet they’ll last Friday and that’s all! They’re addictive. Thanks on the header, the one picture Roxy is taking a treat out of my mouth. I posted it on facebook because people were saying how ‘mean’ German Shepherds are….hee hee 😉
ballsballsballs. I love that they’re fiery red too, Suzie! I think I might-maybe-could eat at least 22 of the 44 by myself. (I partake in Superbowl only for the food, I know, I’m lame, lol) I enjoy your header…love the paw/palm. Love you, Suzie!
Lol!! Oh what fun we have when talking about balls…ha!! 😉 I made these hoping the hubs would like them. He hated them b/c of the blue cheese, so who ate them all? ME!! 🙂 I don’t care about the Superbowl either, I just post recipes b/c I know lots of people host parties. We go to parties sometimes, but all I care about is the food too!! xoxo
I’m super excited by this! We don’t do the Superbowl party thing (sad for us) but something like this would be perfect for our family Christmas party! I usually bring meatballs in a cranberry chili sauce but these would be great too! And I’m making this just for the two of us: http://ftrsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/funny-food-photos-super-tasty-superbowl11.jpg
P.S. Sorry I missed your shout out the first time through. You’re so very welcome!
As I said to Angie, I don’t care about the Superbowl either, I just post recipes for it. Any excuse to make fun food works for me!! 😉 That picture is hilarious thinking of you two eating all that…ha ha ha!! That was a good one, you certainly got me!! Everyone loves my header, you’re awesome!! xoxo
You had me at balls woman! Well, that and hot sauce! 😀 That’s nice of V to change your header – love it!
I thought of you as I typed balls….ha ha ha!! 😉 If you knew how much V did on my blog you would laugh, she is super helpful. I gave her my password, so the funny thing is I never know what to expect!!
Looks good! 🙂
Thanks Jay! 🙂
I love all the photos in the header. I am pretty sure I would eat every single one of these if I made them, they look so up my alley!
Probably by yourself just like I did Rhonda 😉 Hubs couldn’t do the blue cheese…lol!
Love this gorgeous red colour going on my friend, YAY for balls 🙂
Cheers
Choc Chip Uru
Yep, we all love balls!! 😀
I made a similar ball recipe some time ago…here’s the link
http://mykitchenadventures1.blogspot.com/2011/02/spicy-buffalo-chicken-meatballs-with.html
Ya, I hate it when the balls stick to me…lol These look amazing…as always! 🙂
Oh, they are similar! I like your recipe too and my hubs would probably eat that since the blue cheese is not in the meatballs!! I’ll have to give it a try and thanks for sharing!! I hate sticky balls and schweaty balls…lol!! 😉
I followed CCU over here and I am so pleased I did… these Buffalo Balls look amazing, MUST TRY! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!! And I’m glad to share my balls 😉
I saw the title and wondered what Suzie is up to, Buffalo balls, hmmmm…. what a great idea, you can use toothpicks and your hands won’t get dirty. I love this, brilliant!!
I can’t take credit for it but, I think the idea is great too!! Wings are sooo messy! The title always cracks me up 😉
The title is funny but these are some seriously delicious meatballs. I think its a great snack for superbowl Sunday!
Thanks Suzanne! I think they’d be a great hit too 🙂
These sound delicious. I may add a bit of good heat hot sauce, cause I like’m spicy.
Lol!!! I KNOW you cannot stick to a recipe so your additions always make me giggle!! 😉
mmmm, yummy!
Your recipe sounds like a real crowd pleaser. Perfect for the upcoming Super Bowl.
Spicy Buffalo balls? I’m in! Those look wonderful, Suzie!
I think I like this version so much better than the wings. It certainly is easier to eat and doesn’t leave a mess of bones that the dogs could get into. Great recipe!
Ha! I LOVE the suggestive name. Must make eating them more fun(ny) 😛
Yum, I would so much rather have these than the wings! They look wonderful! What a fun variation.
This would be a hit here for the Super Bowl party. They sound great and much better than wings, which I’m not crazy about. Thanks for the recipe!
You’re welcome!!
ooo this look good!! 🙂
looks like it would be tooo easy to keep popping these goodies in one after the other 😛
My husband will love these meatballs. They look really great swimming in hot sauce. A perfect party food.
I’m makin these puppies today. I have a leftover jalapeno, so, you know where it’s going to go. 🙂
Lol! Of course! I hope you like them 🙂
This looks so good! I’ve been craving all things “buffalo” lately!
Thanks Lisa and the next recipe is for buffalo chicken sliders if you’re interested 🙂
