Homemade Doggy Popsicles

I found this recipe a couple years ago. I tweaked it a bit to my preference (or my dogs’).  It has remained a favorite of my dogs since then.  Really, I think any homemade treat is their favorite.  They love treats.  Since we still have quite a bit of summer left I thought no better time to post it.  These treats are high in fiber, all natural and your fur-baby will thank you with lots of sloppy kisses! Let’s make some pupsicles shall we?

Homemade Doggy Popsicles

1 (15 oz.) can of pumpkin (pure pumpkin, not the sugary filling)
1 (15 oz. ) can of yams or a cooked sweet potato (rinse the yams)
1 bag of boil-in-a-bag brown or white rice
1 (10 oz.) can of chicken
1 c. fresh or frozen blueberries
1 1/2 c. low sodium beef broth

In a large bowl, combine listed ingredients (you don’t need to use them all and you can be flexible with the amounts).  Personally, I use all of the ingredients.

Mix together throughly, smashing up the yams as you go.  Use your hands, if you choose to make it easier, messy but easier 😉

Doesn’t this look delicious? 😉

Spoon the mixture into spare ice cube trays or small dixie cups and freeze until solid.

I prefer the dixie cups, once frozen rinse cup under warm water for a few seconds and the treat will slide right out.  If you choose the ice cube trays, once frozen pop cubes out and store in ziploc bags.

Good even for most sensitive stomachs and a yummy treat on these hot summer days.

Yield:  I didn’t have enough room for all dixie cups, so I ended up with 10 (3 oz.) dixie cups and  2 3/4 ice cube trays full of treats.  For a total of 48 treats 🙂

The best part there’s no using the oven for these treats!  And just look at these happy faces…

They are such pretty dogs! I need to make these ASAP! I tried ones from pinterest that were yogurt, banana, peanut butter and something else and he wouldn’t eat them…maybe better luck with these!

Thank you! I have one recipe that calls for yogurt too, which my dogs liked, but I recently read that milk and milk products can cause allergies. Both of my dogs have skin allergies, so I have not been making them…just an FYI 😉 My one dog is picky about treats and she gobbled this up!

Yeah, I’m usually pretty picky about what he gets as far as food since he has some shttps://public-api.wordpress.com/rest/?notes_iframekin allergies and we spend a fortune on his food to keep him in the clear. haha

  2. Love your beautiful dogs and I think those popsicles are great!

  3. Awwww this is such a cute and totally puppy friendly post my friend 😀

Awww, love it! I have to try this on the Jessie-meister. I bet she’d love it. She loves anything with meat! lol Love the pictures of Haley and Roxy too. That photo of the mixture kinda looks like blueberry oatmeal but thinking about what’s in it makes me want to hurl-lol!

Even mixing that stuff up was kinda’ hard to do. Then I just pretended it was something good and got over it…ha ha! My doggies are worth it 😀 It really is a healthy snack for them and goodness knows my one needs healthy stuff!

I’ve made “snickerpoodles” for our dog before, never thought of a frozen treat though!

I’ve made something real similar Biz it’s even called the same thing 🙂 They love the frozen treats on these hot days though. If I get near the freezer they are wagging their tails…lol!

  7. This is a great idea, especially using the dixie cups. I might have to clean out my freezer this weekend to make room and try this.

  8. Suzie says:

That’s the problem I had Rhonda, running out of room! The dixie cups just peel right off and you don’t have to use your ice trays for dog treats…lol!

My puppies thank you, I’m sure! Our shepherd loves just plain ice-cubes (the other 2 always just look puzzled and cheated) so I’m betting these will be a huge hit for ALL of them. Your fur-babies are gorgeous, btw…and obviously not a bit spoiled! 😉

  10. What a fabulous treat for your pups!!!
