Homemade Doggy Popsicles

I found this recipe a couple years ago. I tweaked it a bit to my preference (or my dogs’).  It has remained a favorite of my dogs since then.  Really, I think any homemade treat is their favorite.  They love treats.  Since we still have quite a bit of summer left I thought no better time to post it.  These treats are high in fiber, all natural and your fur-baby will thank you with lots of sloppy kisses! Let’s make some pupsicles shall we?

Homemade Doggy Popsicles

1 (15 oz.) can of pumpkin (pure pumpkin, not the sugary filling)
1 (15 oz. ) can of yams or a cooked sweet potato (rinse the yams)
1 bag of boil-in-a-bag brown or white rice
1 (10 oz.) can of chicken
1 c. fresh or frozen blueberries
1 1/2 c. low sodium beef broth

In a large bowl, combine listed ingredients (you don’t need to use them all and you can be flexible with the amounts).  Personally, I use all of the ingredients.

Mix together throughly, smashing up the yams as you go.  Use your hands, if you choose to make it easier, messy but easier 😉

Spoon the mixture into spare ice cube trays or small dixie cups and freeze until solid.

I prefer the dixie cups, once frozen rinse cup under warm water for a few seconds and the treat will slide right out.  If you choose the ice cube trays, once frozen pop cubes out and store in ziploc bags.

Good even for most sensitive stomachs and a yummy treat on these hot summer days.

Yield:  I didn’t have enough room for all dixie cups, so I ended up with 10 (3 oz.) dixie cups and  2 3/4 ice cube trays full of treats.  For a total of 48 treats 🙂

The best part there’s no using the oven for these treats!  And just look at these happy faces…
